Roel | Process Engineer

Driven to keep growing

Imagine building a career, a home and a family all at the same time. That’s what busy bee Roel was up to over the last couple of years. It characterizes the Process Engineer who now works at our System Assembly department. Roel's journey illustrates how a career at Prodrive Technologies doesn't have to follow a single path — it can evolve from System Assembly into roles in the Visual Management or Logistics department. That’s the drive we’re looking for in our Prodrivers.

Roel began his career at Prodrive Technologies a decade ago, starting as an Operator in the Cable Harness Manufacturing department. “I started through an employment agency as an Operator. From there, I moved up to a Work Preparation Engineer position in the same department.” This initial phase laid the foundation for Roel’s future at Prodrive, allowing him to understand the complexities of the manufacturing process.

But your journey didn't stop there, did it? What happened next?

“I became a Team Leader in the Cable department and later took on the Magnetic department as well.” This role was not just about managing tasks but about building and leading a cohesive team. “Together with my co-team leader we built a strong, close-knit team that excelled in audits and maintained a high standard."

You’re not one to stay put for long. Where did you find your next challenge?

"After four years I joined the CAL (Conventional Assembly Line) department. However, three months later, I was asked to join the Logistics team as a Team Leader due to my experience.” This move marked his transition from production to logistics. “Logistics was going through a rough patch at the time. We were short on stock locations, had to move warehouses several times and had a complex SAP integration, all at once. Even though they were trying times, we faced it head-on and managed to sustain growth.” Roel enjoyed being a Team Leader, but he noticed he missed the technical aspect of the work. He switched departments again to work as a Manufacturing Engineer, a role he helped shape and now he has settled in his role as Process Engineer.

What’s the most fulfilling aspect of being a Process Engineer?

“Seeing results and hearing people be enthusiastic about the changes we implemented. Changes are often difficult at first. Getting people to align with a new process can be a challenge. But when it pays off and you see the results you get a true sense of accomplishment.” Roel is always looking for a challenge. “I am currently focused on the cabinet assembly process and also handle visual management and logistics from the production side.” His multifaceted role keeps him engaged and constantly learning.

Focus on the job. Don't rush, wait for the correct moment. And be positive.

Do you have any tips for future Prodrivers?

“For someone who hasn’t completed his academic studies, I still got a lot of opportunities. All you truly need is the right motivation.” Roel also highlights the significance of staying grounded. “Stay realistic and don’t get ahead of yourself. Keep pushing and put yourself in the spotlight in a positive way.”
